As a form discovered in the afterlife, it remains one of the most enigmatic Super Saiyan transformations to date, with only Goku and Gotenks canonically able to achieve it while other warriors would bypass it entirely. Goku would rely on different Super Saiyan transformations in subsequent anime series, citing a decreased rate of energy consumption as well as an increase in power. With its striking change to its users' physical appearance, Super Saiyan 3 is a transformation only seen briefly since its debut towards the end of Dragon Ball Z. And, in addition to the reduced physical strain, Super Saiyan God was visibly less aggressive than Super Saiyan 3, which appeared to require a significant amount of rage to achieve, with Goku having to work up his anger for a prolonged period of time just to transform. Goku would use the form sparingly during his subsequent rematches against Buu as the antagonist took on progressively more powerful forms, with the composite warrior Gotenks similarly able to achieve the Super Saiyan 3 transformation after Trunks and Goten merged together through the Fusion Dance. Despite knowing the advanced form would consume much of his time granted on Earth as he was still technically dead, Goku proceeded to show off the new transformation anyway, using it to hold Buu at bay and give the villain his first legitimate challenge since his reawakening by the evil Babidi. Goku first unveiled the Super Saiyan 3 transformation during his first encounter with Majin Buu to buy Trunks enough time to recover the Dragon Radar. Vegeta is now way more powerful than any Super Saiyan 3 transformation so probably couldn’t care less that he can’t do it.Over the course of DBZ, the Saiyans unlocked Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 transformations to further augment their strength and abilities but, while Super Saiyan 2 appeared as a natural extension of the preceding form, Super Saiyan 3 remains one of the most unusual Saiyan transformations in the entire franchise. If Vegeta wanted to, he could have killed himself, trained in other world and then learnt SSJ3 just like Goku, but there’d be no point.
SSJ3 POWERUP HOW TO
When Vegeta first saw it, he probably wanted to learn how to become a Super Saiyan 3 after seeing it’s raw power but wasn’t able to because he hadn’t trained in the otherworld. So Vegeta can’t and doesn’t even want to touch SSJ3 anymore when he’s got Super Saiyan Blue rage. Then in Super, we have SSG and SSB, not to mention the other Rage forms Trunks and Broly were able to achieve which were massively more powerful than SSJ3.
In GT we had SSJ4 with is one more powerful than SSJ3 (Thanks basic maths!) but without the power usage limitations. But it’s been massively outclassed by subsequent transformations, giving Vegeta even less reason to learn it. Super Saiyan 3 was the ultimate powerup at the end of Dragon Ball Z. So even though SSJ3 has the raw power, it’s possible Vegeta would want to focus on making SSJ2 more powerful, as Toriyama stated that SSJ2 could eventually be as powerful as SSJ3.
SSJ3 POWERUP ANDROID
The ultra muscley SSJ1 form Trunks rocked during the Android fights was straight up ignored by Vegeta, even though he could do it because it made him too slow and used up too much power inefficiently. So we’ve established why Vegeta can’t go SSJ3 but does he even want to? We knew Vegeta has a high fighting IQ, and have seen him forgo more powerful forms because they are impractical. So it seems that SSJ3 isn’t a power meant for the ordinary mortal man. Likewise, for Gotenks, it seriously cut his fusion time in half. But the form uses so much power and put such a physical toll on the body that it shorted Goku’s time allowed on Earth.
Vegeta is gobsmacked when he sees it, and is furious that Goku didn’t use it in their fight. Goku never returns from one of his trips empty-handed, and his journey to the otherworld saw him return with the Ultimate Super Saiyan transformation, SSJ3 or Super Saiyan 3.
